Greene King Finals Day

Greene King Finals Day - Biggleswade Rugby Club Saturday 25th April

A very busy season for Biggleswade Rugby Club culminates in the Greene King Finals Day on Saturday when the club welcomes twelve senior teams to Biggleswade. The Greene King Leagues were established ten years ago to provide compeditive rugby for clubs who run second and third teams. The teams competing in the leagues are mainly from East Anglia, Hertfordshire and North London, with one notable exception. Barcelona based Poblenou Enginyers are the first continental side ever to be welcomed into an English league and have soon established themselves as a front runner. The team swap a ground overlooking the Mediterranean sea for more traditional English muddy pitches on a regular basis, but should find Biggleswade's grassy sward to their liking.
Biggleswade club president John Cushion said " It is an honour to host the Greene King Finals Day and we look forward to welcoming the teams and their supporters, especially the Catalans to Biggy,".
Poblenou Enginyers beat Hertford in the semi finals to reach the finals and a trip from Barcleona to Bedfordshire!

On Saturday three finals will take place, for the 'Deuxieme', 'Premiere' and 'Super Premiere' finals all being held on Biggleswade's club pitches while the Sheepwalk pitches will be used as a warmup area. Some 250 players are expected at the club with the first game starting at 12.30pm and finishing with the final games at 3pm.
This caps a good year for Biggleswade RUFC as they were voted the community club of the year by the RFU.
Entry is free and the club expects a large number of travelling supporters.
